Sex Trafficking Essay

Having to face constant death situations and daily harassment either physically, sexually, or even mentally is something that thousands of people globally have to endure every single day. Sex trafficking victims are swallowed into the billion dollar business by people that may be very close to them or either strangers who kidnaped them. Many of these victims are in their teens ranging from 12 to 18 years. This displays that the people running the sex trafficking industry don’t really care how old the victim is; as long as they are able to accumulate money from selling a person to someone else, it’s not a big deal. Many people may assume the crisis was demolished due to the government attempting to take action but this situation is well on the verge of compiling over 10 million people in about the next 3 years.  Sex trafficking was abolished in civilized countries around the globe but it has come back because, as Mark Twain says, “history doesn’t repeat itself but it often rhymes.”

Sex trafficking has been around since the 1400s which really shows that it’s not something new. The issue has been on social media. 1 in 12 girls are associated in the sexual slavery so maybe someone really close to you could be in the business. This crime is slowly swallowing people into brainwashing them, ridding them of their identity and forcing them to adjust to a new life of being a sexual slave which is a very vile and gruesome life dealing with drugs, gangs, guns, abortions, and stress. All these piled up can lead to death by suicide or murder. The government can’t even calculate how many sexual slaves there are due to rapid growth in trafficking business. There are many questions sociologists have about why would the people dealing with this kind of situation do not step up about the problem. Some debates this being due to the fear of their owner killing the victim’s family while some are saying the reason may be just the feeling of guilt and humiliation.

There are many places in which sex trafficking occurs but the top five are actually countries in Asia, South America and the Middle East. The highest record of sex slaves is in Bangladesh, followed by Brazil, Haiti, Pakistan and India. All five of these countries horde millions of people which could make it very hard for police to capture the sex traffickers and bring them to justice. As the population of these countries increase the likelihood of the increase in sexual traffickers and slaves is very high. The number of people involved is so vast that it could hide the identity of each individual associated into sex trafficking. That is why many sex traffickers can get away with their crimes. Their scheme is luring run-aways into their web and capturing them. And hours later these youngsters are up for a sale. 3 in 5 run-away girls get lured into sex trafficking and don’t return home until caught by the police.

In the countries where sex trafficking is on the rise students of all ages should be informed of the existence of such business and what should be done once someone is trying to talk you into it. These safety rules will reduce the amount of prostitutes on the street and traffickers’ gain. You can’t run a business without money and we need to stop supplying them with potential ‘workers.’  There are many organizations helping women that have been able to escape the life of sex trafficking and introducing them into a life in which they do not have to use their body for other’s gains.
